TORAKICHI 2023
Bearing the name of our founder Torakichi Higa and prepared based on a differing concept every year, the “TORAKICHI” series is Zanpa’s premium form of old sake. For “TORAKICHI 2023,” we took on the challenge of realizing a new Awamori sake with “Aged Drifting & Melding Orange,” which deviates from conventional Awamori offerings by containing two types of old sake with completely different characters that have been aged for twenty years.

TORAKICHI 2023 is a collaboration with Takayuki Yamada, producer of FORIEDGE. FOREIDGE takes the Japanese traditional handicraft of Edo glass and presents its as one-of-a-kind designs that inspire feelings of “incongruity.” Yamada handled the design of the collaboration bottle and supervised the sake blend inside it with the aim of realizing a novel design fusing the FORIEDGE and Zanpa logos and a taste of Awamori sake the likes of which has never been experienced.*Jointly developed in 2022

DEVIATION
The old unprocessed sake contained in TORAKICHI 2023 is No 99, which gives off a sweet aroma not unlike custard or caramel, and No. 114, which has a fruity-tasting sweetness. As it constitutes a blend of two old processed sake types considerably removed from the strong flavor peculiar to Awamori sake, it was finished as an “Awamori sake deviating from Awamori” offering a wholly-surprising flavor that completely separates it from conventional Awamori sake.
